Life-changing innovation

The infusion therapy planning system enables healthcare professionals to plan therapies from two sources well in advance, covering at least an entire shift.

The system operates seamlessly without necessitating any user intervention for source switching. Once the schedule is confirmed, the system autonomously manages the transition between sources, streamlining the process for healthcare providers.

Featuring a cutting-edge 7-inch touchscreen, our state-of-the-art interface offers users a spacious and clear display. The user-friendly design aims to minimize input errors, ensuring a seamless experience. With its excellent readability even from a distance, the screen can be easily adjusted to accommodate individual user preferences, guaranteeing optimal comfort and convenience.

Cleverly placed force sensors provide a real time measurement of the force inside the administration set. This allows for accurate occlusion detection and protection against high pressures within the system.

By combining an advanced administration set design with sophisticated software coding, the system possesses the capability to autonomously eliminate air from the administration set. Not only does this reduce the number of interruptions of the therapy, but it also creates a high level of safety against air infusion.

A key feature of the Ivy Duo + is that the infusion pump can be placed inside a carrier. This allows patients to carry the infusion pump in the form of a bag, eliminating the need for an infusion pole. The transition to this mode does not disrupt the infusion therapy, ensuring continuous treatment. Together with the ability to plan therapy in advance, the carrier facilitates patient mobility.

The system is designed to be as safe as possible, adhering to all relevant safety regulations, while striving to minimize the frequency of alarms compared to existing infusion pumps.

Through a combination of design features aiming to reduce alarms;
The Ivy Duo + enables automatic switching functions to provide plannable infusion therapy and has automatic air bubble removal, we expect to reduce the occurrence of alarm situations.

Improving sleep is especially important in hospitalized patients as sleep loss is associated with worse health outcomes. Their sleep is however disturbed by the high noise levels in the hospitals, to which alarms of traditional infusion pumps are the main contributors.

These alarms cause the environment of the patient to be stressful and hinders their rest. By actively preventing unnecessary alarms, the Ivy Duo+ contributes to quality sleep and fosters a sense of security.

The main benefits

Life-changing for both patient and healthcare professionals

Timesaving

The Ivy Duo + allows nurses to plan infusion therapy in advance through the ability to connect two infusion sources. As a result, the infusion pump generates fewer alarms to attend to.

Safety

We guarantee that the Ivy Duo + has an accurate and constant flow. In addition, the causes of ‘unnecessary alarms’ are counteracted to prevent alarm fatigue among nurses.

Mobility

The Ivy Duo + can be carried inside a carrier that enables patients to be mobile. This is very important as physical activity plays a crucial role in the recovery of patients.

Created with and for end-users.

In collaboration with Radboudumc,

Ivy Medical has started the journey to reinvent infusion therapy. Ivy Medical’s innovation strategy revolves around making a difference for patients and nurses every day. We believe that co-creating with our end-users from idea to product is what sets us apart.

As one of the most innovative academic hospitals in Europe, Radboudumc is dedicated to making a significant impact on healthcare and we are proud to be partners.

Launching in 2024

Our plan to change the medical world

Ivy Medical works with a stage-gated development process. At the end of every stage Ivy Medical produces an integrated prototype, which is tested and validated thoroughly by looking at all technical, medical, and commercial requirements.

Our final prototype represents our end product which will be tested and CE certified under the Medical Device Regulation. Ivy Duo + is expected to be launched in early 2024.

Timesaving

The variety of alarms from different medical devices has largely increased in the last decades. For a critically ill patient, nurses can even experience up to 45 alarms in one hour[1].
The innovative design of the Ivy Duo + prevents some of the infusion pump specific alarms by eliminating their causes.

The Ivy Duo + mitigates one of these alarms, an empty infusion source, by having the ability to automatically switch between infusion sources. This feature allows nurses to plan infusion therapy in advance.
Other timesaving functions are for example that the Ivy Duo + automatically primes the system and that the interface touchscreen is large, intuitive and easy to use.

Safety

The large number of alarms in healthcare facilities leads to the nurses being overworked, distracted, or desensitized by the alarms, also known as alarm fatigue.

Alarm fatigue is identified as a critical safety issue for healthcare professionals as it can lead to potentially dangerous delays in attending to critical alarms and therefore impairs the safety of patients[1],[2].

With the help of a unique algorithm one of the factors creating many alarms: air-in-line is counteracted to optimize patients’ safety. The Ivy Duo + works without the use of a drip chamber which also means that it does not need to be in a n upright position continuously meaning that it is resistant to toppling over.

To ensure optimal patient recovery, patients must receive an accurate dose of fluids or medicines. The state-of-the-art pump technology allows just that. We guarantee an accurate and constant flow with the Ivy Duo +.

Mobility

Rest, physical activity and psychological well-being play a crucial role in the recovery of patients[3],[4]. For example, physical activity reduces the incidence, prevalence and mortality of various physical and mental diseases, while inactivity can lead to a decrease in muscle strength and muscle mass. In addition, it leads to a decrease in exercise capacity and deterioration of lung function[5],[6],[7],[8]. Literature even shows that an increase in physical activity is associated with a shorter hospital stay[3],[9]. Therefore, it is very unfortunate that during hospitalization, patients spend 70-87% of their time lying in bed and only 2-6% of their time on physical activities like standing and walking[10],[11],[12],[13],[14]. The Ivy Duo + together with its comfortable carrier is innovated to stimulate patients to become more mobile and perform more physical activity. It can be carried around it is carrier with the goal to stimulate physical activity and to improve patients’ recovery.
